How does a young designer build taste?

Short answer

Depth is self made.

Long answer

The world will give you breadth. What the world cannot give you is depth. You have to find that depth for yourself.

If you want to be an architect, you have to travel this country, travel the world, look at architecture, sensitize yourself to it, learn about it, feel it, experience it physically. Sit in the space and feel how that sounds in your ears, to know what it is that you identify with, what resonates inside you. And I think that is where we have to be patient. But where we have to be impatient is about making work. When you are absorbing, be patient. But when you are making, just make. Keep making, keep practicing, keep doing it again and again. Draw that one form fifty times. Every one of those things will make you a better designer.
